Pysanka Festival 2011

 

Introducing: Roxanne Rachinski

 

Biography:
Roxanne began her dance training with Tap at the age of 4 and by 6 added Ukrainian, Ballet and Jazz to her studies. She participated in many performance and competitive dance opportunities and completed examinations in the Al Gilbert, ADAPT and Royal Academy dance syllabi. Her training also included attending numerous dance conventions and seminars throughout Canada, U.S. and The Ukraine. In 1979 Roxanne joined the ranks of the Ukrainian Shumka Dancers, performing with them throughout North America, the Orient, Russia and Ukraine. She had the honor of performing for such dignitaries as the president of the United States and the Queen of England and alongside Canadian icons Anne Murray, Karen Kain, Frank Augustyn and Tommy Banks. Roxanne began teaching dance at the age of 16 and later, with husband Doug, opened Dance Unlimited where students study numerous forms of dance. As an instructor, Roxanne’s students have met with great success, with former students moving onto the Alberta Ballet Company, Les Ballet Jazz du Montreal, The Jackie Kennedy Onassis School (New York City), Juliard (New York City) and the Ukrainian Shumka Dancers. Roxanne has also won numerous awards for choreography throughout North America. Roxanne received her Education degree from the University of Alberta with a certificate in Early Childhood Education and is working towards a master’s degree in adolescent literacy. Roxanne currently holds the position of Reading Intervention Consultant with Edmonton Catholic Schools. She resides in Edmonton with her husband and two teenage children and is looking forward to sharing in the celebration of Ukrainian dance at the Vegreville Pysynka festival this year.
