St. Nicholas Mandolin Ensemble

The St. Nicholas Mandolin Ensemble was first formed in 1979 under the direction of Rev. Fr. Nicholas Diadio, Pastor of St. Nicholas Church Parish.
From its first public performance in 1981, the ensemble has performed on many occasions at nursing homes, lodges, carol festivals, country fairs, weddings, conventions, church functions, shopping malls, schools, Heritage Days, Pysanka Festival, Ukrainian Heritage village and many others.
Directed by Lawrence Pshyk, from 1996, the ensemble has grown from 14 to the present 32 members. New mandolin players are always most welcome to join.
The GOALS of the Ensemble are:
to enjoy the camaraderie and the pleasure of making music,
to grow in musical skills and expand our repertoire,
to share our music with a variety of audiences.
The Mandolin Ensemble plays a wide variety of music arranged in 6 parts. The ensemble’s repertoire includes a variety of old favourites, multicultural folk music, popular, Broadway, classical and original music. The Ensemble has performed at a wide variety of events. The ensemble has performed at Malls, Weddings, nursing homes, hospitals, club banquets, seniors lodges, National Parks, conventions and many others.
The ensemble has shared cherished Ukrainian Folk music with people of varied origins. The ensemble has performed at many Ukrainian cultural events such as The Pysanka Festival, Heritage Days, Kiev Connection, the Ukrainian Carol Festival in Calgary, “Flowers of the Bible” art show, the Chester Kuc Ukrainian Pysanka show, Malanka at Londonderry Mall and numerous times at the Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Village.
The St. Nicholas Mandolin Ensemble has recorded three albums: The first, “A Musical Mosaic”- a collection of multicultural folk songs and old favourites. The second, “A Christmas Mosaic”- a beautiful rendition of Christmas carols from around the world. The third, “Mando Mosaic”- a blend of original music and familiar songs from popular musicals.
