Pysanka Festival Welcome Letter

As you know, the Vegreville Pysanka Festival has always held a special place in the hearts of Ukrainians all across Canada. Many remember being there as young aspiring dancers and celebrating late into the night after watching a fantastic grand stand. The Vegreville Pysanka Festival is traditionally an affordable weekend getaway where families can connect with their Ukrainian heritage.

We are re-structuring the dance competition for 2010 to regain that special place in the cultural life of Ukrainians in Canada. Please consider recommending your students and families to come check out the new categories, cash prizes, workshops and other special events that promise to make Vegreville competitions an important part of the Ukrainian dance community in Canada.

Every year our festival will feature one region. There will be dance workshops, awards for dancers and choreographers as well as a small museum exhibit displaying items from the that region.

Not only will dancers have an opportunity to participate in a workshop with our adjudicator, we will also have Traditional Village Folk Dancesessions open for everyone to enjoy.

We understand that the dance season often wraps up in May; however, we also understand that in every club, there are families who can’t get enough. The best groups will also have a chance to perform on the grandstand stage! We encourage everyone including your solos, duets or small groups to consider participating in our competitions.
