Edmonton’s Viter Ukrainian Dancers and Folk Choir are internationally acclaimed for their energy, innovation, and passion for Ukrainian Canadian culture. Over the last 30 years, Viter has grown from a small dance group to a renowned ensemble of dancers, choristers and musicians.
Under the artistic leadership of Choral Director Lesia Pohoreski and Dance Directors Emily Belke-Farrell and Joseph Hoffman, Viter attracts talented members with diverse training, who passionately showcase Ukrainian Canadian culture. Viter has performed for appreciative audiences worldwide, including Ukraine on five separate occasions. Most recently, in August of 2024, Viter toured Poland, Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia.
This year, Viter is proud to be celebrating their 30th anniversary. Viter’s production "Threads of Hope/Nytky Nadiyi" will be premiering on October 3rd and 4th, 2025 at the Myer Horowitz Theatre in Edmonton. The first half of the production highlights Ukrainian resilience through the eyes of eight-year-old Nadia and her family, who are facing Russia’s current invasion of Ukraine. Her father goes to fight, her teenage brother struggles with intense fear and anger, her Baba and Dido face severe health issues, and her mother strives to keep the family together. Through Nadia's perspective, we see the richness of Ukrainian culture and the stories and traditions that highlight resilience: courage, strength, love, joy, and above all, hope.
Today, Viter stands among Canada’s major performing ensembles, blending traditional Ukrainian folk art with modern themes. We invite you to experience the cultural richness of the Viter Ukrainian Dancers and Folk Choir!
