Edmonton’s Viter Ukrainian Dancers and Folk Choir have become recognized internationally for their energy, innovation and passion for Ukrainian culture.

 

In 25 years as a performing ensemble, Viter has evolved from being a small, enthusiastic group of dancers to a well-rounded and accomplished ensemble, made up of both dancers and choristers. In 2008 Viter’s performances were further enhanced when a group of singers joined the company and founded a choir, expanding Viter to a dance and folk choir ensemble. The result is a group of choristers and musicians who interact with the dancers, creating an entertaining and harmonious blend of storytelling which is unique to Viter.

 

Viter continues to attract talented members with diverse training and extraordinary devotion to preserving and sharing Ukrainian culture and traditions. Since its inception, Viter has shared their productions with appreciative audiences in Edmonton, across Canada, and around the world.  The ensemble has performed to enthusiastic audiences in Brazil, Argentina, Croatia, Austria, and is proud to have returned to Ukraine on 5 separate occasions.

 

As an Ukrainian cultural arts ensemble, we continue to stand with Ukrainians here in Alberta and around the globe during the ongoing war in Ukraine. Viter has continued to perform and showcase the vibrant and beautiful Ukrainian culture through song and dance across Alberta this year. Our ensemble has raised over $22,000 for the Canada Ukraine Foundation and partcipated in fundraisers and performances dedicated to raising funds and awareness about the terrible tragedy affecting innocent people in Ukraine. Today, Viter is proud to have taken its place among the major performing ensembles in Canada, and is recognized for infusing the folk art of traditional Ukrainian song and dance with modern themes that resonate with today’s audiences.
