Edmonton’s Viter Ukrainian Dancers and Folk Choir are recognized internationally for their energy, innovation, and passion for showcasing Ukrainian Canadian culture. In its 25 years since inception, Viter has evolved from being a small and enthusiastic group of dancers to an accomplished ensemble, composed of dancers, choristers, and musicians.

It was in 2008 when the performances of Viter’s dancers were enhanced when a group of singers came together to expand Viter from a dance only group to a duo of dance and choir. Today, this duo is often joined by musicians forming a complete, well-rounded ensemble.

Viter is unique in Canada as it is the only group of dancers, choristers, and musicians under one name which creates an entertaining and harmonious blend of Ukraine originated folk dance, song, and music portrayed through the telling of a story on stage filtered with our Canadian history and influences. Viter is proud to have taken its place among the major performing ensembles in Canada and is recognized for infusing our Canadian influence on the folk art of traditional Ukrainian song and dance with modern themes that resonate with today’s audiences.

Viter has shared its productions with appreciative audiences in Edmonton, across Canada, around the world, and indeed Vegreville. The ensemble has performed to enthusiastic audiences in Brazil, Argentina, Croatia, Austria, and is proud to have returned to Ukraine on 5 separate occasions. This summer, in August 2024, we will embark on an international tour to Poland, Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia. In fact, we will be honored to perform in a concert commemorating Estonia’s national holiday of “Restoration of Independence Day” celebrated on August 20.

Viter is under the artistic leadership of Choral Director, Lesia Pohoreski. She attracts talented members with vivid energy, diverse training, and extraordinary devotion to showcase our Ukrainian Canadian culture and traditions.

Viter Ukrainian Folk Choir looks forward to representing the entire ensemble at Pysanka Festival – 2024. We invite you to the Grandstand show, listen to our songs, and experience our energy!
